I had more fun at this meet today than I have in a long time. There was no pressure since I didn’t train for this meet and my main objective was to qualify for NASA Natural Nationals. I also wanted to do some raw meets. The unequipped division does allow knee wraps, but I wanted to compete raw and opted not to use wraps. Nationals are at the end of January and after the APF Texas Cup in November I will start training.
Squat:
I believe I would have got 600 if I would have descended at my normal speed. I descended slower for some reason and realized it about half way down.
Bench:
The bench press was the biggest surprise of the day for me. I haven’t gone 3 for 3 on the bench in close to 20 years. NASA doesn’t allow you to bench on your toes so during warm up I tried benching flat footed and flat backed. I was shocked at how easy the weights were. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I smoked all 3 lifts and had no sticking points. I know from now own to bench this way when I bench raw and only use an arch when I bench in a shirt.
Deadlift:
My 650 pull was a 50lbs raw PR. I haven’t pulled raw in over 2 years. I got too psyched on my 3rd attempt and got too far over the bar. I believe I would have gotten 705 if it wasn’t for that. I smoked my first 2 attempts.
Thanks to Sean for helping me today. It was nice to not have to mess with gear today.
